Nature's Wrath: Why Seven Districts in Uttarakhand Are Under an Absolute Red Alert
The monsoon in northern parts of India has developed into something that is dangerous, with the infrastructure of the region under extreme pressure. The IMD (India Meteorological Department) has issued an "Alert Red" warning in seven very important districts of Uttarakhand. It has experienced heavy to extremely heavy rains, causing severe landslides, flooding in rivers, and disruption in life.
With the weather becoming more aggressive, people have been advised not to travel through mountainous areas.
The Affected Zones: 7 Districts Under Highest Alert
The Dehradun based Meteorology office has deployed its red alert warning across seven highly affected areas:
°Dehradun
°Tehri
°Pauri
°Haridwar
°Udham Singh Nagar
°Nainital
°Champawat
Meteorologists say that the isolated areas are experiencing heavy rainfalls which have crossed 204.5 mm per day, causing flash floods and structural failures.
Infrastructure Crippled: 126 Roads Blocked
National Highway to Yamunotri: Totally closed for three consecutive days after a massive landslide occurred at Syanachatti.
National Highway to Gangotri: Closed due to rock fall at Nalupani.
National Highway to Badrinath: Closed at many scattered spots under thick layers of debris.
Of particular note is the state of chaos caused in the respected Char Dham Yatra pilgrimage circuits:
National Highway Yamunotri Circuit: Fully closed for three successive days owing to a massive landslide in Syanachatti.
Impeded near Nalupani by rock slides.
National Highway Badrinath Circuit: Halted at numerous points under thick layers of debris.
